Is Chrono Trigger for the DS exactly the same as the original game?
I'm thinking about buying Chrono Trigger fo the DS.
Now, I've already played Chrono Trigger before, when it came out on the PlayStation in the two-game set Final Fantasy Chronicles, so that's what's in my head as I recall playing it.
Is the DS version the same, or did they change the game a LOT? Like, is it the same soundtrack? Same cutscenes? Same opening video?
The DS version is not exactly the same as on the SNES. I believe the major difference in the DS version is that past a certain point, you have access to a very different side-quest called the Lost Sanctum that you can do, but it gets very old, very fast (if you do it, you'll understand).
Also, there's a digimon-style arena battle mode where you can "train" an elemental monster to fight against another monster in an area 'beyond the reaches of time'. Sometimes you get loot out of it, sometimes not, depends on whether or not you win. I find myself doing this a lot while playing, as you have to wait 10 in-game minutes between training sessions. There's also multiplayer for this mode.
The soundtrack (Mitsuda Yasunori!) is exactly the same, sound effects, animations, everything. Even the fair. Only this time, I think it's easier to get the cat to follow you.
Either way, I think you should get it. I've played it years before and bought the DS version immediately when it was released. In my opinion, one of the greatest RPG's ever made.
